The Pan di Zucchero Via Ferrata is a spectacular route located on the majestic limestone cliff of Pan di Zucchero, a 133-meter-high islet off the southwestern coast of Sardinia, near Masua.
The ferrata starts directly from the dinghy! The ascent begins vertically next to the plaque marking the Sentiero dei minatori (Miners' Trail), where some steps are located.
You reach a small plateau and continue over easy rocky ledges with a few metal rungs. The route then follows a series of ledges that cut across the southern face of Pan di Zucchero, connected by some well-equipped steeper sections. Technically, the route is easy but highly exposed. The ferrata leads to the summit plateau, where a short trail takes you to the peak, offering a breathtaking view of the entire gulf.
For the descent, there are two options:
Retrace the via ferrata
Abseil 45 meters directly back onto the dinghy
